Spring in the Pharmaceutical Market: in Recent Months the Market has Shown Growth in Volume Terms for the First Time
23.03.2010
As recently as January 2010, the market was on a downward trend in sales: from December 2009, the sales declined in physical and monetary terms alike. In February the market situation started to improve and showed an upward trend.
Thus, in February 2010 the procurement of medicines by pharmacies was up 11% in rouble terms and 10% in physical terms on January 2010.
The weekly surveys of pharmacy drug sales indicate that the market has continued growing in March. The weekly average sales of OTC drugs are up 3% in rouble terms and 4% in physical terms in February and the first half of March compared with December (as reported by 1,500 pharmacies in Russia). In Moscow, the growth is more pronounced – 4% and 7% in rouble and physical terms, respectively. We can therefore report a reversal in the trends of earlier months and a start of an upward market trend, first of all in physical sales volume.
