This issue describes the Russian commercial pharmacy market in the 1st half of 2007.
In the 1st half of 2007 drugs commercial market value amounted to $2.6 billion (in pharmacy purchase prices) which is 18% higher than the year before. However the increase in rubles is 11% (67.9 billion rubles in the 1st half of 2007).
The weighted average price per drug unit on the Russian commercial market increased by 21% and amounted to 38.8 rubles ($1.49).
According to Laspeyres index prices on the commercial pharmacy market increased by 3.8% in rubles and by 9.9% in dollars in the 1st half of 2007 compared to that of 2006. For the TOP-100 drugs of the 1st half of 2006 prices increased by 2.0% in rubles and by 8.1% in dollars.
The share of cheaper drugs (“Under 50 rubles” segment) decreased in the 1st half of 2007 due to move of some of its drugs to the more expensive segments. Drugs priced at 50–150 rubles cover maximum market share — 35.7%. Owing to this fact the average unit price decreases (-4%) within the most expensive segment (“More than 500 rubles”).
Domestic and imported drugs ratio in value terms stayed the same in the 1st half of 2007 compared to that of 2006: domestic drugs cover 24%, while imported ones — 76%. In unit terms we see 2% decrease of domestic drugs share. This occurred due to prevailing price growth for domestic drugs over imported ones.
In the 1st half of 2007 Rx drugs share increased by 2% in value terms and amounted to 59%. In real terms OTC drugs prevail, they cover 63%, which is 3% lower than the year before.
Sanofi-Aventis leads TOP-10 drugs manufactures. Pharmstandard moved from 5th to 2nd position, having increased its sales by 67%.
The total share of TOP-20 leading drug trade names in the 1st half of 2007 is 12.6%, which is a bit lower than the year before.
In the 1st half of 2007 Russian NS (nutritional supplements) pharmacy market value amounted to $163 mln which is 8% higher than that of 2006. At that in ruble terms NS market value increased only by 2% and amounted to 4.2 billion rubles.
The weighted average cost per NS unit decreased by 3% to 45.33 rubles. In dollars it increased by 3% and amounted to $1.74.
Evalar and Diod lead TOP-20 NS manufacturers on the NS commercial market. However, while Evalar’s share grows (+30% to the 1st half of 2006), Diod loses (-19%) due to sales decrease of its main brand Capilar.
Capilar (by Diod) leads the TOP-20 NS trade names in spite of its sales decrease. It almost twice overheads its closest competitor Bilberry-Forte. Gerimax Energy shows maximum growth in rating ($2.8 mln; +98% to the 1st half of 2006).
